FACETING II: OVALS, PEARS, CUSHIONS AND ANTIQUE CUSHIONS
INSTRUCTOR: JOHN ELLIOTT
This course will help develop and expand your faceting skills. We will go beyond the big six commercial cuts. You will learn to facet the more complex meet point designs of ovals, pears, cushions, antique cushions and art stone designs. This class is for more experienced faceters. You can continue your skill development with more challenging meet point designs. Faceters will get a kit with my book on faceting ovals, pears, cushions, antique cushions and art stone designs. We will start with preformed stones in laser gem and quartz to save time. The book will include what makes a good design for these shaped gems from an artistic point of view and current market trends for these gems. We will be using lab created rough and some natural topaz for faceting gems. Please bring an OptiVISOR or 10x loupe in addition to closed-toe shoes. If you have your own faceting machine or laps, feel free to bring those as well and I’ll help you learn that machine.
Class Fee: $250
Prerequisites: Previous faceting class or practical experience
Growing up I went into mines and collected stones with my mother and Father. Later in life I started faceting and making jewelry. In 2018, I discovered the William Holland School and took courses in faceting and jewelry making. I was hooked. I explored and enjoyed doing Sapphires and Rubies in 2019.
Please contact William Holland School of Lapidary Arts if you have any questions.
