FEDERATION: MINERAL ID (15+)
INSTRUCTOR: MIKE HARRISON
In this class we will first focus on fun while learning the basics of rock and mineral identification. Each student will learn the basic chemical composition for minerals, their hardness and how to test the hardness, specific gravity, color, luster, and other traits. Students are encouraged to bring their collections (their best specimens, not a whole truck load) to show off and to classify if they are not sure what they are. We will visit local rock shops to give them an opportunity to add new specimens to their collections. We will also learn about precious metals and visit Crisson’s Gold Mine to learn how to pan for gold and also visit the Dahlonega Gold Museum in downtown Dahlonega if time permits.
Class fee is $100 and includes some collectable specimens, entry fees, workbooks and
reference books that are provided.
Please contact William Holland School of Lapidary Arts if you have any questions.
