LAMPWORK 1.5 

INSTRUCTOR: GEORGIA VAN ZYLE 

 

Have you already taken a beginner class and want to further refine or refresh your skills? This Beginner/Intermediate lampwork class is for you. This course is designed for those who have a basic understanding of lampworking and want to expand their techniques and creativity. Join us for a journey into the art of lamp work bead making. Leave with beautiful beads and the knowledge to create more on your own. Cotton clothing, didymium glasses and closed-toe shoes are required. 

What You’ll Learn: 

  • Shaping Techniques: Master more complex shapes created with gravity and marvering or bead presses. 

  • Make encased beads and more. 

  • Surface Decoration: Explore the use of stringers, frit, enamels, and metallic foils to add texture and depth to your beads. 

  • Precision and Control: Improve your flame control and precision to enhance the quality and consistency of your beads. 

 

Class Structure: 

  • Refresher and Safety Review: Overview of safety measures and equipment handling. 

  • Demonstrations: Step-by-step demonstrations of techniques by an experienced instructor accompanied by handouts. 

  • Hands-On-Practice: Ample studio time to practice and refine your beadmaking skills with individual guidance. You will work at your own propane/oxygen torch in our ventilated studio. 

  • Feedback and Review: Constructive feedback sessions to help you improve and develop your technique. 

 

Materials Provided for Use in Class: 

  • Glass rods (104 COE) in various colors are included in your class fee. 

  • Torches and fuel 

  • Mandrels and bead release 

  • Assorted tools and safety equipment. Didymium glasses are provided. 

  • Additional supplies needed for each project 

  • Handouts

Class Fee: $100 includes everything you will need in class. 

Prerequisites: Completion of a beginner lampwork bead making class or equivalent experience is required.  Maximum number of students: 6
