METAL CLAY: STONE SETTING IN SILVER METAL CLAY
INSTRUCTOR: STARR PAYNE
In this class students will learn several techniques for setting cabochons and gemstones into metal clay. Creating bezels and prong settings which can be incorporated into a piece either before or after firing the metal clay. We will discuss which stones can be fired in place and the best methods for incorporating non-fireable stones into your metal clay designs. In addition, students will also be able to work with dichroic glass and stone inlay.
Silver metal clay is micro-fine particles of silver in a claylike binder that can be cut, formed, and textured. When fired with a torch or kiln, the binder burns away and what is left is fine silver.
The class fee includes enough silver metal clay to complete several projects, such as earrings pendants, and brooches. A cabochon along with fine silver bezel strip and wire are also included in the class fee, along with handouts and consumables along with the use of an instructor’s tool kit. Additional metal clay and materials will be available for purchase, and the prices are included in the Estimated Materials Fee.
Class Fee: $275.00
Est. Materials Fee: $25.00 - $200.00
Prerequisites: Some experience with metal clay preferred but not required.
