METAL CLAY: A TIDE POOL PENDANT IN SILVER METAL CLAY
INSTRUCTOR: STARR PAYNE
Create a “Tidepool” pendant in this Silver Metal Clay Workshop. In this one-day workshop, we will be using a small, molded beach themed elements and put them together into a “Tidepool”. Once assembled, the pendants will be fired using a torch then polished and patinaed so that each student will go home with a finished piece of fine silver jewelry.
Metal is micro-fine particles of silver in a clay-like binder that can be cut, formed, and textured. When fired with a torch or kiln, the binder burns away and what is left is fine silver. This class is good for both new and experienced metal clay students.
The class fee includes enough silver metal clay to complete a pendant and/or a pair of earrings, along with handouts and consumables and the use of instructor tools. Additional metal clay and materials will be available for purchase if desired.
Class Fee: $140.00
Est. Materials Fee: $0
Prerequisites: None
*WH TUITION: $100 Includes Breakfast and Boxed Lunch. No additional charge for lodging if taking a class, the week before or after, $60 lodging fee if needed. Please email [email protected] to arrange lodging.
I have always been a creator. Some of my earliest memories are of making things and always wanting to try the latest art or craft project. For many years I worked outside of the arts field, but would still work on some form of art. I began making beaded jewelry in 1995, and after moving to Florida, continued developing metalsmithing skills with the Florida Society of Goldsmiths. In 2001, I discovered Metal Clay and it has been the main focus of my work since then. I hold Metal Clay Certifications from Rio Grande, Art Clay Silver and PMC Connection. While working predominately in silver metal clay, bronze and copper clays are beginning to show up more in my work. I love to work with metal clay, the feel of it, and how it can be textured and shaped into beautiful designs and pieces of wearable art. Also, you can add so many other elements such as color and stone setting to the metal clay. I continue to be interested in all forms of craft, and since discovering the Zentangle drawing method, has added a two-dimensional element to my work. Currently I teach both Metal Clay Jewelry and Zentangle in Tallahassee at the Lafayette Park Arts and Craft Center and last year began teaching at William Holland.
Please contact William Holland School of Lapidary Arts if you have any questions.
