Participants must be 15 years to 120 years old when the program starts.
Mineral Identification Intensive (Weekend Class) for 15 to 85
This is a condensed version of the week-long Mineral ID class. We will learn the basics of rock and mineral identification. We will concentrate on identification with hands-on testing for hardness, specific gravity, color, luster, fracture, cleavage and other traits. Students are encouraged to bring their collections (their best specimens, not a whole truck load) to show off and classify if they are not sure what their collection contains. I will provide new specimens to add to their collections. I will also provide class notes for reference during class and later, after the class. I will also provide hardness specimens to keep.
Class fee is $60 and includes notes and mineral specimens that are provided.
Class size is limited to 4 students in order to better focus on each student’s questions and desired class direction.
